Yeah, so how about the week from hell is finally coming to a close. It seems like every semester my life gets more and more hectic. So, let’s run down the week and see what happened…
Monday: My independent Spanish 3 stuff was due. So I finally turned in a bunch of stuff. I still have a lot of other work I need to do for that.
Tuesday: Butler’s test in African-American History. Love his class, love what I’ve learned this semester, but the test was a bitch. There is SO much information to learn. I think I did ok on the test. There are a couple of mistakes I made, but I think all in all I did better than I thought I was going to do. Well I guess I’ll find out Tuesday how I really did when we get our tests back.
Wednesday: Jake and I stayed up until 5 in the morning studying for the College Algebra test we had Wednesday morning. So yeah, I left like two problems blank—dumb ass. Miguel + Math = NO! That just doesn’t work. I really don’t have many words to say about this, I was just disgusted with the whole thing. I was so mad at myself. BUT, later on Wednesday night I had Statistics, we got our grades back from the first test. How about I made an 85!! I didn’t that that was possible for me! heh
Thursday: My debate in Social Problems was tonight. I was on the side that believed that street crime is more harmful than white collar crime. How about I was some nervous before we went up to debate. I think we did okay, both sides did. We had a good healthy debate. But thank God it’s all over.
Next week I have a test in Theatre Appreciation. The play that I’m directing performs next week. Fun times indeed.
Some things that have been on my mind tonight and this week:
-Life is frustrating.
-People are frustrating.
-I will be receiving my Associates of Arts in Journalism in two months! How exciting.
-Sometimes I get this feeling of loneliness that just creeps up from no where. It kind of sucks. Actually I’m feeling it right now, I don’t like it. It’s not productive in any way.
-10% of the world is gay. 10% of the guys at SGC are gay, aren’t they?
-Sometimes I feel like one of those people who just complains about being alone, but never does anything about it. But sometimes I get this scary feeling that I’m just so weird and out there in the end, it will just be me and my laptop. See, this is what being up at 2 in the morning does to you.
-Math hurts
-I wish I could find out the final verdict from UGA so I can make living arrangements.
-Ryan Cabrera is kind of hot, but he is with Ashlee Simpson, that makes me mad.
-Christopher Rice’s book comes out March 16th and I can’t freaking wait. It’s going to be so much fun.
-Happiness fades.
-I love my mother.
-SGC has been fun, but I’m ready to leave.
-I wonder what people really think of me. heh
Alright, well I’m tired and my brain is slowly leaking out of my nose, so I’m heading to bed.
Good day!

So how about I hate me some Statistics! I’ve been sitting in the library for the past hour looking through my notes trying to get started on homework. How about I didn’t even know where to freaking start. I was supposed to study with Paige, but she couldn’t make it today. I don’t know what I’m going to do. We have a test tomorrow and this homework is due! Meh. We just got the study guide for African-American History today in Butler’s class. After my Statistics test tomorrow, I’m going to spend the rest of the week studying for Butler’s test. That’s going to be a bitch. We had like 60 terms on the study guide, then the three essays. But I think I’m going to do well. I’ve been listening and talking good notes in class. I’ve kept up with all the readings—I’ll be ready. Oh, and how about I gots meh self a 99 on the first Theatre Appreciation test last week. Dr. Seward handed back the tests today. I was so excited. I think this is the first time I have ever made a grade that high before. So far so good on all the classes this semester.
But, I do have some bad news. I don’t think I’m going to get into UGA. After looking at their site for the 474304094934th time, I came across something that I seemed to have overlooked. The deadline for Transfer students is April 1st. When a student applies at that time, they go by how many hours the student will have by April 1st, not the number of hours they will have by the end of the academic year. If a student has 50-60 hours by April 1st, they would have to have a 3.2 to get in. If a student has 60 or more hours by April 1st, they would have to have a 2.5 and above to get in. As of right now, I have 55 hours and a 3.01 GPA. By the time May 7th hits, I’ll have 65 hours, but they go by how many hours you have by the deadline. UGH. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I guess I’ll be going to Georgia Southern…
But any who, I’m going to go and search high and low for someone who is in my Stats class and see if I can get some guidance from them.

I’m sitting in the library right now. I should be typing up my African-American History notes, or studying for my Statistics test Wednesday. I’m having the same problem I have been having in every class – I’m falling asleep in every class! I don’t know what’s going on with me. I’m so use to being able to run on like three to four hours of sleep everyday. I guess now it’s finally “catching” up with me. meh
Valentine’s Day. Today. Ugh. Nothing really bad or good happened today. Today was pretty low-key. Woke up, the apocalypse wasn’t going on, so I presumed everything was ok. I went off to turn in some Spanish homework which was very overdue. I have Spanish 3 as an independent study this semester. It’s so hard to keep up and learn in that when I have five other classes going on. I found out today that I made an 83 on my first College Algebra test. That’s average for most people, for me, that was freaking awesome! I was so happy to get that B. A B is a B, and I’m taking that baby home! lol I think we have another test in like one or two weeks, so I’ll be at it again trying to figure how those numbers and letters come together to form a math equation. Crazy. Really. But yeah, went to Spanish, sat around in my office for a while getting little things ready for the next edition of the newspaper and waiting for College Algebra to start. Finally 11:00am rolled around and I strolled into class. After that was over, it was time for the Gay-Straight Alliance’s Valentine’s Day basket drawing. We decided to sell a basket for Valentine’s Day to raise money for Relay for life. Our earnings at first from ticket sales were abysmal, but Jake and Jessie went out and got more people to buy tickets. I sold six. We drew names and Yolanda W. won the basket. Yay for fighting cancer.
Ah yes, John Mayer just came on my play list. Now I feel alive. I love that man. Mr. John Mayer, if you ever happen to read this, give me a call!
But yeah, uneventful Valentine’s Day. But this weekend was a different story…
Saturday night, Jake, Samantha B., and I went to Valdosta. We did our usual round of Books-A-Million, Best Buy, and somewhere else that drains the wallet. After 30 minutes of driving around the Valdosta Mall, we finally decided on where we wanted to eat. Steak and Shake was the destination for our starving tummies. Oh, they just blinked the lights for us to leave the library. Damn a poor two year school who closes at 9pm everyday. Now I have to go to my room to finish this post. To be continued…..
Ok, now I’m sitting in the laundry mat downstairs in the dorms. I love wireless internet. So much fun. Any who, where was I? Oh, right, so we wrapped up our meal at Steak and Shake and finally we were going to meet up with Kayla. There had been talk all week of Sam, Jake, and I going to the club with Kayla, Nikki, and some of Kayla’s other friends. I didn’t want to go, but Sam said she wanted to do something different, and of course Jake was gung ho to do anything. So we went. We met up with Kayla and followed her to ‘Rumors’. Yep, that’s the name of the club-Rumors. We walked in, and I was sacred. Many times throughout my young life, I have been the only African-American amongst many white Americans. I have never been intimidated or scared, I was then. There was a sea of cowboy hats and tight jeans. Some men were sporting “urban” gear, but most could be described as your normal good ole’ boy from South Georgia—granted, there were some guys who had on polo’s and such, but I was still scared. Oh, and when we walked in some country music was blaring over the speakers. Fun. So we all go and sit around a table. Everyone is starting to loosen up and dance a little in their chairs. I don’t. I’m sitting there trying to read the place and see if I should be as freaked out as my spider senses were telling me to be when I first walked in. The house bad, appropriately named “Dixie Twisters” or something like that, got up and starting singing and hollering to what I guess are popular country songs. I was still freaked out. This when on for some time. The Dixie Twisters finally ended their set and sat down. Then the real music started. The dj stared playing some rap music. I normally don’t listen to rap music, but at the time anything that was remotely considered “black,” I was going to hang onto for dear life. Luckily I knew most of the rap songs they were playing. But it was quite humorous to see “cowboys” dancing to Ludicrous. Blah blah blah, fast forward to about 45 minutes later. After more rap songs, another set from the Dixie Twisters, some more rap music comes on. That song from Save the Last Dance—something about putting your back into it came on. I had to dance. So I did—Jake, Kayla, Nikki, and Kayla’s other friends all joined in. Sam wouldn’t come! But yeah, Jake got down on the dance floor. He had Kayla and Karen in hand and was dancing like no one else was there. Well done.
After a while I was tired and ready to go home, and we did. All in all it was an okay night. I don’t think I’ll be doing that anytime soon.
So this past week has been all about me bingeing. I went to Weight Watchers and learned that I gained five pounds. People. FIVE pounds. Do you know how much of a fat ass I feel like? I was doing so well, so now it’s back to square one.
Ok, well I’m tired of writing and I think my clothes are finally finished drying. I’m out.

It’s been a while since I last posted. I wish I were in a better mood so I could use gushy words to describe how happy I was last weekend. Luckily, this entry will be pretty straight forward blow by blow account of what happened last weekend and this past week.
First, the Georgia College Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest was this past weekend. I didn’t think we would fair very well in the competition. Seeing as how ABAC, Floyd College, and Gainesville College have always swept up in these competitions, I didn’t think we stood a chance in anything. We had placed in eight categories. Well, this is how the awards went for us:
-2nd Place, Best Column: Miguel (Me) (I HATE being second!)
-3rd place in Best Individual Entertainment Feature: Brittany Smith (I was pissed Brittany got 3rd, but I was happy she won something. She so deserved it!) (Oh, and I need to pay for back for the McDonald’s she bought me.)
-2nd place for Best Website (this category included both two and four year schools; we were only beat out by SCAD! Little ole South Georgia is coming up in the world!!!)
-1st place in General Advertising Excellence (thanks to Tyler and his wonderful skills, and of course thanks to Jake who sells the ads.
-1st place in Layout and Design (THIS made me smile. Maybe I am slightly creative!?)
-1st place in Campus Community Service, Editorials (YAY for people with cool things to say!)
-1st place in Campus Community Service, Features
-2nd place in Overall General Excellence (I do not like second, but I just have to deal with it, bitch)
-AND, I was voted President of the Georgia College Press Association’s Executive Board. YAY! That made me happy.
-Oh, and the thing that made this whole day that much special is when we found out that our school hadn’t won a 1st place at the Georgia Press Association since 1990, and that was just for one award.
- Judges of the contest wrote several positive comments about the newspaper, such as: “Thoughts and opinion,” “Speak your Peace,” and “Point CounterPoint” immediately inside the paper… these prove that The South Georgian wants to know what people are thinking and saying. Schools having papers with lots of opinion graduate better citizens.” Another judge said, “The South Georgian has a bright, clean appearance. It has exciting use of type and spot color. For the September/October and November editions, it sure had a good photographer. The South Georgian is lively. You’re not afraid to let students express themselves. In fact, you see that for what it is, your greatest asset as a newspaper.”
Frier, Jake, Sam, Lee, Alicia, Brittany, and Kyle went. On the way to Macon we got a speeding ticket, fun. Got there, met cool peeps. Went to some really neat workshops and met some cute boys (now you see why I really went! Kidding). Afterwards, we all went to Barnes & Noble for a little book action. I saw Todd from my Stats class there – he’s getting married soon. Wow. Frier, Sam, Lee, Alicia, and Brittany all went back to Douglas after our book adventure. Jake, Kyle and I stayed in Macon for a while. We went and saw “Boogeyman,” don’t see it. Got lost. Took Kyle to this game place. Got lost. Found O’Charley’s, didn’t want to wait 40 minutes for a table so left there. Got lost. Found Applebee’s and finally ate there. Then we hit the road and came back to Douglas. Fun times had all around.
This past week was slightly stressful. I had to get the newspaper out to the press, take a Theatre test, take a Social Problems test, and sleep. The newspaper hit newsstands Thursday night; people seem to like it, especially since it’s our “Love and Sex” edition. I think I did well on both of my tests. OH, and how could I forget, I had a College Algebra test Monday. Well, um, er, that went ok. That’s probably going to end up being a B or C. We shall see Monday when he hands back the test.
I still haven’t heard back from UGA about next fall. I really wish we didn’t have to wait until April to find out. Georgia Southern sent me their housing application. I would fill it out, but I think they want $200 with the application, so I don’t know if I want to give them there money and then end up going to UGA. Decisions, decisions.
Well tonight was fun. Sam. B, Jake, Edgar, and I went to Ruby Tuesday’s for a little grub. This is our Hater’s weekend (V-Day is Monday). I ate so much freaking cow it was sad. We then left there and dropped by Cafe Isabella’s for a while. Saw some cute people there, but way to young. Gosh I’m getting old. Sam, Jake and I trotted over to the high school to meet Catie and Mark\ to roll down hills. College anyone?! lol I would have done it, but my bones would have broken.
Another note on tonight…I’ve talked to two people from my “past” tonight. Weird. First it got me in a pensive mood. I didn’t know how to feel. But ya know what? I’m over it. Like, totally ready to move on over.
2 more months of SGC then I’m gone…
